School of Engineering, Pokhara University has taken a significant step toward advancing international academic and research excellence by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kangwon National University (KNU), Republic of Korea. The agreement was signed between the School of Engineering, Pokhara University and the Department of Electronics and AI System Engineering, KNU, marking a milestone in global academic collaboration.
The MoU Signing and Research Collaboration Orientation Program, held on December 29, 2025, at the School of Engineering, Pokhara University, brought together more than 50 faculty members, master’s students, and administrative staff from diverse engineering disciplines. The strong participation highlighted the interdisciplinary significance and broad institutional impact of the partnership.
The MoU is founded on the principles of academic excellence, mutual trust, and long-term cooperation, and aims to leverage the complementary strengths, expertise, and research capabilities of both institutions. It establishes a robust framework for collaboration in education, research, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
Under the agreement, Pokhara University and Kangwon National University will collaborate on joint research projects in engineering, artificial intelligence, information and communication technology, and related interdisciplinary fields. The partnership also promotes joint publications in high-impact national and international journals, collaborative development of competitive research proposals for international funding, and the co-organization of seminars, workshops, conferences, training programs, and academic exchange activities.
The program was honored by the presence of Dr. Gyanendra Prasad Joshi, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and AI System Engineering at Kangwon National University and Academic Lead of the Cognitive Computing and Networking Lab. During the Research Orientation Talk, Dr. Joshi shared strategic insights into emerging research frontiers in electronic systems, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary applications. He emphasized effective utilization of the MoU to foster collaborative research, strengthen faculty–student supervision, enhance publication quality, and expand international research networks.
The academic session was further enriched by a technical talk delivered by Mr. Arjun Gautam, Doctoral Research Scholar at BITS Pilani, India, on “Time Series Analysis of Streamflow in a Himalayan Watershed for Water Security.” The presentation provided valuable perspectives on hydrological research relevant to Himalayan environments and regional water security challenges.
Following the academic sessions, the MoU Signing Ceremony was formally conducted, with the agreement signed on behalf of Kangwon National University by Dr. Gyanendra Prasad Joshi and on behalf of Pokhara University by Prof. Dr. Binaya Kumar Mishra, Director of the School of Engineering.
This strategic partnership is expected to significantly enhance the research capacity, international visibility, and academic stature of the School of Engineering, Pokhara University. By opening new avenues for global research collaboration, joint publications, and academic exchange, the MoU reinforces Pokhara University’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and international engagement.
